The implementation of Republic Act (RA) 11285, or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EEC) Act has seen a positive impact on the government’s push to safeguard a sufficient and stable energy supply in support of the Philippine economic and social development goals.
Under the law, Designated Establishments (DE) within the Commercial, Industrial, and Transport (CIT) sectors are mandated to submit energy efficiency reports as one of the measures to ensure that guardrails are in place for energy conservation.
As the year draws to a close, retail electricity suppliers (RES) like Aboitiz Power’s AdventEnergy Inc. (AEI) actively supports industries in meeting the Department of Energy’s (DOE) requirements under RA 11285.
Aboitiz Power’s Vice President for Retail Energy Sales and Solutions Engr. Gina Lyn David-Camacho said that retail electricity suppliers play a pivotal role in achieving industries’ energy efficiency goals as the year ends and that energy conservation should be treated as a national way of life.
“We recognize that business continuity and energy efficiency solutions are important aspects that Philippine businesses should prioritize,” David-Camacho said.
“Stability is one of the key things we are helping establishments and key industries in the country achieve. We reassess their energy consumption to ensure optimal operations for the remaining year and better planning for the next.”
David-Camacho said the company’s hybrid energy solutions ensure that clients comply with energy laws and regulations while protecting sensitive equipment and maintaining critical functions even in times of instability.
Energy efficiency strategies lead to higher savings
Through energy audits conducted by retailers like AEI, Philippine businesses and establishments can pivot to more efficient energy solutions and plan better for succeeding years of implementation.
In the case of AEI, energy audits are tiered depending on clients’ needs. This may include a preliminary assessment, offering a high-level overview designed to identify significant energy waste and immediate cost-saving opportunities for establishments.
The other tier involves conducting a thorough analysis that examines consumption, data, and systems to uncover substantial cost-saving potential. This second level of audit then provides actionable recommendations with a strong emphasis on return on investment, which affects and prioritizes the investment decisions of clients.
Aboitiz Power First Vice President and Head of Retail James Yu recognizes that retail electricity suppliers have a big responsibility to continue to innovate, highlighting that customer education is essential in the process.
“I believe that retailers are continuing to step up,” James said. “We are now catering to more customers over time and it is our responsibility to deliver our promises to customers which include competitive electricity rates, and sustainability and reliability of their power sources.”
The DOE reported that energy efficiency strategies such as the strict implementation of practices and measures under the EEC Act have led to PHP364 million in cost savings in the first quarter of 2024.
As the country’s largest retailer group, AEI has played a key role in achieving this milestone, supporting over 500 business facilities across the Philippines.
